NEW THIS YEAR — a magical Sunday evening
at the breathtaking McArthur Estate!

Step into the magic of a Victorian Christmas at the McArthur Estate!

The McArthur Family, the Rotary Club of Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum are delighted to host a special evening in support of the Museum’s expansion project, and in celebration of 130 years in the community.

Set against the backdrop of the magnificent 1829 brick Georgian home—immortalized in several of Trisha Romance’s beloved paintings—the McArthur Estate offers 10 acres of enchanting Georgian gardens, intimate outdoor spaces, and timeless holiday charm.

Inside, guests will be welcomed with a seasonal drink and the enchanting sounds of live chamber music by the Soenen Sisters. Wander through both the first and second floors of the home, each adorned with exquisite holiday décor.

Stroll through the illuminated grounds to discover the Beautiful Angel, the Nativity Scene, and festive stops like the Reindeer Stables and Canine Manor, where children can write heartfelt letters to Santa. Children will also enjoy a reading by Trisha Romance of her own book, ‘A Star for Christmas’, in the Sunroom, visits with Santa, and special holiday goody bags.

The evening concludes with fireside warmth on the back decks, where guests can savour charcuterie boards and toast the season under the stars.

Frequently Asked Questions:
How does the day tour work? Where do we start? This is a self-guided tour. You can start at any of the seven main houses to get your stamp and your printed booklet with the map of sites. Once you have your stamp, you can view the sites in any order you wish. Many of the properties are close together and easily walkable if you are fully mobile, however, some distances will require a vehicle. There is plenty of parking in town and in the area but individual homes will have limited street parking so plan your route accordingly. Please see our parking suggestions. There will be a link to download a pdf of the booklet with the map on the website, so you have a starting point.

Where do we go for 'A Merry & Bright Christmas at the McArthur Estate' and for ‘A Victorian Candlelight Christmas’? Please go directly to 210 John Street East at the specific time and date on your ticket, and park along John Street. Parking is free.

What if I have limited mobility?  There are mobility drop-off spots at each house. At some homes, there could be limited mobility parking. Please walk up to the door and introduce yourself to the Captain of each house. The person with mobility issues and their helper will be allowed to go to the front of the line. The tour is of private residences. We have checked with the residences on this year’s tour and none of them are wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately, we are unable to make them wheelchair accessible for the limited purposes of this event. Walkers can be accommodated. We will have boot covers for people who have difficulty removing their shoes. Please ask the Captain or the volunteer at the door about the boot covers.  Please email us at notl.hht@gmail.com for individualized instructions.

Can I buy tickets at the event? Tickets are available ONLINE ONLY.

Is my General Day ticket valid for both days? YES, you can use your General Day ticket for both days between 9:30 am and 4:30 pm. A Merry & Bright Christmas is separate and only for a specific date and time.

Can I get into houses at 4:30 pm? The houses will close at 4:30 pm, so you are advised to be at your last house of the day at least an hour prior. Sometimes line-ups can be long, so it is better to get there early.

What's the refund policy? Your donation benefits local and international projects. View our Projects section on this website to see the organizations we support.

Are there line-ups? Please allow 30-40 minutes at some of the houses. Sometimes changing the order of the homes from the listed order can help. We will have hourly line-up notifications via email to provide options for shorter line-ups.

Can I bring my pet? Sorry but there are no pets allowed in any of the homes.

What shoes should I wear? All houses have a 'shoes off' policy, so it is advisable to wear shoes that slip on and off easily. Also, you will be standing for long periods so something comfortable and warm is advised. If you have mobility issues, ask for our slip-on covers when you enter the homes.

Can I take photos inside or outside the homes? Photography inside the homes is not allowed except for individuals who have received prior permission for marketing or news purposes. You may take photographs of the homes’ exteriors.
