WHAT'S GOING ON IN ROTARY AND THE NEIGHBOURHOOD - March 1, 2024

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Spring is in the air as we head into March.  Focussing on Spring, we are going back to our Regular Weekly Meeting Schedule at the Community Center starting March 5th.  So mark Tuesdays at NOON on your calendars for all the Tuesdays in March.
The Social luncheons in January and February were a test - the rationale being that many of our Members are away and we need to have 18 Paid Members at each meeting to cover our Catering Expenses.  Moving the venue to local restaurants meant that we did cover our expenses for 3 of the 4 meetings at the Community Center over that time period.  A survey will be going out to all Members in the Spring to get your feedback and determine if we do the same format next year or not for the next Rotary Year.

Now for Good News - Helle Brodie and Marlene Gallyot were welcomed to our Club on February 20th as our latest New Members.  We are so fortunate to have such talented and service dedicated community members join our Club.

We would like to say a special “Thank You” to Diki McElhinney of Brockamour Manor Bed & Breakfast for hosting a Jazz Salon at her home on February 26th with the proceeds to be donated to our NOTL Rotary Club.  It was a fun evening and could be the start of more Jazz evenings in the future.  A shout out to Nancy Bailey for helping with the organization and volunteers on behalf of our Club.

Lastly we have three meeting speaker spots open in May and June so if you have any recommendations please let me know.

Lets all have a great March, don’t forget to move your Clocks ahead and raise a glass on St Patricks Day.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
MARCH 23RD - SAVE THE DATE - NEWARK NEIGHBOURS PORCH PICKUP

The need has never been greater!  Newark Neighbours Food Bank is supporting over 150 Households totalling over 300 Individuals regularly with food from their Food Bank.  Several years ago that number was 30-40 Households.  To support that effort and fill the shelves for Easter we are going to do a porch pickup March 23rd in collaboration with NOTL Kinsmen and St Davids Lions Club.  You now the drill - Early March I will send out an email asking for pickup teams, Cindy Grant handles the promotion and collection of addresses for Newark Neighbours, a day or two before you get a list of pickup addresses, we do the pickup and drop-off and when you drive home you have that great feeling of doing something good for the neighbourhood. So let’s serve the Community on March 23rd.
